Portland Island Remote Beach Cleanup

We had an epic cleanup with Surfrider UVic on Portland Island last weekend. 💙 It doesn't take long to see that even on a beautiful, remote island the plastic pollution problem persists.I could show you how pretty this Island is, but that’s not the point. The objective of the journey of these epic Surfrider UVic volunteers today was to highlight the issue of microplastics pollution on the semi-remote paradise, Portland Island. It didn’t take long to walk along one of its beaches and see individual pieces of styrofoam strewn across the back-beach like confetti. Four big bags of styrofoam, a couple of tires and some rebar later, we hauled it back home and recycled as much as we could. Big ups to this team for spending their Sunday getting their hands dirty protecting what they love!!
